Late Bloomers

I started my square foot garden and plantings very late in the summer... probably wouldn't have started them, but my daughter wanted to push the green envelope. So we have some new seedlings going.

The corn is actually a popcorn variety, from Southern Seed Exchange.

Actually we bought the kid friendly starter pack.
It also included the ornamental gourd seen above, as well as some sorghum.

We are excited, but clearly we may not get anything to harvest as it is already late august.

Having said that the figs... after three years of disappointment are finally coming into their own. I ate a small one this morning and it was glorious, sweet and full of flavour.

Now we need the dog to keep the critters out for further harvest!
